About

Mark Skinner began Artisan Contracting, Inc. with the idea of creating a different kind of home building company - one that provides a craftsman's approach to quality built on a foundation of satisfied customers.

Through the years, Mark's talent for listening to the customer's ideas and clearly communicating ways to translate those dreams into a reality has set Artisan Contracting apart from its peers. Mark enjoys working with clients to help them develop their ideas into concrete plans. He excels at helping customers design the solution to meet their individual needs.

With over 25 years in the construction industry and an educational background in Industrial Management from the University of Richmond, Mark Skinner has a broad range of building-related experience that enables him to understand the many aspects of project management and residential building.

Mark began his home building career "hands on" as a lead carpenter in Virginia Beach, VA and was quickly promoted to a framing crew foreman on a high-rise apartment project. He moved to New York City, where he managed a crew that performed masonry restoration on many of the City's most prestigious historical buildings. Returning to Virginia Beach several years later, Mark became a project superintendent, building up to 20 custom homes at any given time. In Virginia Beach, he oversaw all phases of the construction process, from the foundation to the walk-through. Subsequently, Mark began a remodeling company that performed many residential exterior-finish projects and custom renovations. Meanwhile, Mark purchased homes in the greater Norfolk area to renovate and later resell.

After relocating to the Charlotte area, Mark noticed the extraordinary growth in the surrounding counties. He quickly obtained his General Contractor's license and began Artisan Contracting with the goal of becoming the most sought after contractor in North Meck County. Mark's years of experience has led him to a business philosophy of treating his clients like he wants to be treated. He believes that follow-through and honesty are crucial to creating a working relationship with his clients to ensure their complete satisfaction.
